Military and Nursing

Nurses Men

Published

I am active duty Marine at the moment, I'm also a part-time college student, and I also have 2-part time jobs as Nursing Assistant. How is my experience in the military as a combat engineer help me find a job as a Nurse in the civilian sector?

Is it practical to get my LPN before RN or BSN?

If i wanna get my Master's/PhD, is Navy or Army (reserves) the way to go since they would pay for my education?

I do have baby on the way as well. And I'm 22 Years old filipino guy.

THank You guys in advance

I served 21 years in the Corps and after retirement became a cop. After I realized I might as well go back to the DI field than to be a cop I got out of it and went to school. I used my GI bill. I did what you dont want to do if you can help it. There were ZERO school seats locally for RN so I went the LPN route. I would not suggest doing it my way. If you can get into an RN program do it!!! Even if GI bill doesnt cover it all, you are young enough to pay off whatever you would need to and still make good money. The good part for me is I work at a VA hospital so since I will be getting my RN soon, the VA will pay for it to include me getting my regular 40 hr a week pay to stay at home and do school fulltime. And something to think about, the VA has good benefits, your active time goes towards your retirement, and the VA hires vets over civilians if you are just as qualified as the civilian regarding the job you are applying for.
