Surgical Sub-Specialties Unit

Specialties Med-Surg

Published

Hello all!

I was recently (today) offered a full-time position on a surgical sub-specialties unit. This particular unit, which is something I am not familiar with, incorporates mostly post-op patients, including a majority of cardiac/vascular, 1/4 neuro, and an occasional fem-pop. This unit also has med-surg overflow.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for a relatively new grad in this position with so many specialties. I will also be required to have ACLS certification and have to take a basic EKG class, as there will be many cardiac drips.

I am very excited about this position and seems like it will an awesome learning experience! Just a little overwhelmed at the moment, LOL.

Any and all advice/help is greatly appreciated. Thank-you!

It sounds like a cardiovascular step-down unit. Wow! You will learn a lot. I don't have any particular advice, but you may want to repost your question in the cardiac critical care section.
