Specialties Med-Surg

Published

Hello Fellow Nurses,

I am a nurse with about a year in a half of experience. I have been working in an oncology infusion center and casual in my med-surg position. I worked med-surg for a year and loved it but I had a great opportunity to work in oncology and I jumped at the chance.

I just accepted a position in a faster pace Med-Surg Ortho floor in a larger hospital. I am very nervous because I have become a little rusty on my pharmacology.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a quick and dirty brush up?

Thank you,

Katelyn

Working Ortho you will commonly see meds such as Toradol, narcotic pain medications PO and IV, Lovenox & Heparin (SubQ), IV steroids, and IV antibiotics.

The best way to brush up for me personally has been to grab a drug book and review meds I expect to see and other than that it will all come back to you once you are back on the floor. Looking up medications as you give them, side effects included, has been a great way for me to learn new medications and reinforce what I already know.

Good luck in your new position! While I am no longer in Ortho I surely enjoyed every minute of it.

Thank you so much!

I forgot the commonly passed meds on that floor and I am just nervous.
