Hello fellow nurses,

So after many months of applying for a full-time staff RN position, I finally found a job! I will start my first nursing job on May 7th! I'll have classroom orientation for about a week and then clinical orientation for 2 months with a preceptor. I'll be on the medical-surgical ortho unit. I am very excited to start my career as a nurse but also nervous!! I guess I'm just here to get some advice from all of you on time management? assessments? etc. How is your day like? How do you personally organize your day?

Thank you all for you help in advance!

Time management is a learned skill. It took me almost a year to get my time management down. It's hard to give you advice, every body is different. I do my assessments while I'm in the room giving meds. I try arrive early to work to organize myself. You'll learn you own way but be patient, it takes time. Some times dayshift can be very overwhelming for a new grad. I started nights until I learned nursing then went to days. My days is very busy and still overwhelming at times and I am a seasoned nurse. So much multitasking, if you're good at that, you should have no problems. Just store different tasks in your brain and retrieve them when it's necessary. It's crazy at times but rewarding.

Hi @Ynabeana just accepted a position in a surgical/ortho floor as a new grad. How did things went for you?
