Leaving Med/Surg for OB

Hi everyone, I'm an LVN here in TX and just got accepted into the RN !! I've been out of school since August and work on a busy Med/Surg floor. Well, since I started school my focus has been to work OB, but I know I needed at least a year of Med/Surg first. Well, things have transpired over the past week that have sent me packing and I put in for a transfer to our hospital's Post Partum department!! What happened was someone told me our new Director said that we would have to start taking 7- 8 patients on a regular basis :uhoh21: !!!! Well I asked our Director about this and she basically told me some BS about don't believe everything I hear and it would be ok :uhoh3: ! So, long story short, this information is true and we will be expected to have 7-8 patients due to the higher ups cutting back on payroll or something like that!! Well, I for one am not ready for that many patients and I do not plan on losing the license I just got!! My question is, am I overreacting about this and did I jump ship too soon?? I feel it is the right time for me to transfer, especially since I got into RN school and it has been my dream to work OB!! Just looking for a little input!

I think you made the right decision, if your heart is in OB!!! My question for you.... Texas allows LPN's to work in OB????????? Not in FL, that is my MAIN motivation to go for my RN--to work in L&D.

Thanks for the reply, LVN's here in TX can work PP and sometimes well baby Nursery. However, some hospital's do not have LVN's on the OB floor. I'm lucky I guess, because the hospital I work for will let an LVN work on the OB floor, but only PP and Nursery, and most of the time you have to be working on getting your RN. Well, hopefully things will work out for me, because it's only getting worse on Med/Surg, at least where I am, but I did get alot of experience and that is what I set out to do.
