Hello all,

I am and have been a med/surg nurse for over two years now and am looking to get my med/surg nursing certification through the ANCC (RN-BC). Has anyone done this before that would be willing to give me some advice on how to get started? What do i need to do to prepare? Any recommendations for study or ways in which to go about getting certified? Thank you so much! I appreciate any and all responses :-)

I was about to post this same question! I'm lucky that my hospital provides free certification review courses from a company called Ed4Nurses, so that is what I am using to study now. I plan on taking the exam in about 2 months, but I have no idea what to expect!

Hi,

We have a mixture of nurses who took either the AMSN or ANCC cert test, however, we used the same books to study (books on AMSN) and took a 16 week course geared for both.

What the instructors told us, and we seemed to find it rather true, is the ANCC had a heavier focus on the legalities of nursing, whereas the AMSN was heavier in disease process and management.

I took the AMSN, so I have no personal experience with the ANCC. I'm just passing along what the ANCC test takers said and the instructors.

Most of us took the AMSN due to cost of renewal and the test cost.
