by kmiles

Can Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) be coded by checking the Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease (ASHD) in section I? What is the difference?

They're the same. Other alternative names - atherosclerotic heart disease (AHD) or coronory heart disease (CHD)

I do not code them the same. If CAD, I mark "other cardiovascular disease"

Just to clarify ...

If you choose to check "other" cardiovascular disease, you will enter the specific disease code (ICD9) in Section I3.
  • The ICD9 for CAD is 414.01.
  • The ICD9 for ASHD is also 414.01.
