?s about Mass hospitals

A friend of mine will be finishing her BSN this May, and was asking me about salaries in Boston (since I used to live there), but I have no idea what they are? I know that MGH pays lower than everyone else...but I don't know what it is lower to?! Also when I worked for partners, it was my understanding that tuition reimbursement is capped at 2000 per year, does this also apply to nurses or is the reimbursement greater? How strong are the unions? And last question, what are the ratios like?

Both MGH and Winchester Hospitals are among the only two in this state to have Magnet Status; this may the biggest selling point.

The strength of a union is dependant apon all those members and how much effort they wish to apply towards empowering themselves in the workplace.

Tuition reimbursement also varies; currently, at the facility I work in, tuition is paid in full for fulltime nurses who also agree to certain others terms including a committment to stay at the facility for 3 years after the date of graduation from the program.

As for salary; I applied for a position @ a Boston Hospital and at that time there was .02 difference in pay. It was not worth it for me to endure a longer commute, pay for parking and start at the bottom again.

Good luck with your decisions.

Paula

I guess I was also wondering what the hourly pay is like...I would assume in at least the mid-twenties per hour? But I saw another post where someone indicated that they were paid 21 per hour in Boston. Which in my opinion does not seem right compaired to the cost of living (althoug I remember from living in Boston that the wages have yet to catch up with living costs).

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if there is parking for employees at any of the Boston hospitals (MGH, Brigham and Womens, BIDMC, NEMC, BMC)? I will most likely be commuting from Kingston or Plymouth and will need to drive as the commuter rail does not run frequently enough to make a day or evening shift. Also, does anyone else commute from the South Shore - I'd love to hear how you have found it. Thanks!!

There is parking at bmc. It is taken out of your check pretax weekly. Day shift parks in parking lot and I think(but could be wrong) it is about 20 a week. Night shift parks in a garage and it costs 9.23/week.
