Help! Looking for CNA program in Harford County or surrounding areas

U.S.A. Maryland

I'm trying to find a CNA program that won't interfere with my prereqs for the nursing program. My ultimate goal is to get into a nursing program, however, I feel the best thing I can do to gain a little experience would be to get my CNA. The problem I'm running into is that the classes I have found interfere with my school schedule. I'm currently enrolled for the spring in Chem. 111 on Mon. and Wed evenings and A&P 2 Tues. and Thurs during the day. Does anyone have any ideas? I was hoping there would be something on the weekends but I'm not fining it. Any suggestions?:loveya:

HCC offers programs in the summer for CNA and they are shorter than when I took it about 2.5 years ago. And I agree, it's good to have that experience. I took the CNA class the semester right before I found out that I was accepted into the nursing program and then got a job at UCMC. (Also, I would advise looking into the UCMC scholarship program too once you get accepted!)

Thanks so much for the response! I did find that HCC offered their PCT nursing assistant class this semester when it was convenient for me. I didn't notice it initially because it was part of the series of PCT modules.

Thanks for the heads up about the scholarhip program! I will definitely check into it.

No problem! Also, if you decide to work for UCMC or HMH, look into their externship program when you are in the second semester for admittance for third semester. You get a lot more experience and it gets your foot in the door. I just graduated from HCC and I was able to get a job while the majority of my classmates weren't, because of the scholarship and the externship. Sorry, just rambling now, but good luck!

Thank you so much for the great information. If I go through HCC's nursing program I will certain check into that. Right now it's a toss up between UMB and HCC. So many pros and cons for each. I guess it will boil down to who accepts me first!

Congrats on getting a job!! I think you are definitely one of the few. I know someone who graduated with you and has not heard anything on the job front yet:uhoh21:

Well no matter which one you go to, you can still get the scholarship and do the externship, but externs usually get taken on if they already work as a tech in the hospital. And yeah, I think only about 1/4 of my class has a job...and 2 people from the summer graduation still don't have jobs. It's rough now, but it will turn around!

Yes hopefully things will turn around right about the time I'm graduating:rolleyes:

BTW what are is your first nursing job in? It must be so exciting for you!
