anyone who has completed nursing or knows about nursing at howard cc...i have a couple questions so please reply to this message. thanks!

hey.. i just completed my first semester of nursing at HCC... what;s ur question?

im very curious to know how competitive is it?? thanks a ton

to get in? it's not competitive, but once u get in, about 10% of 80 students fail the fundamentals of nursing because u have to get a minimum of 74.5 to pass the course. then, from the remaining, another 10% failed the med-surg class. I've only completed 1 semester, and this was how our class did. from talking to some of the seniors, from a class of 80, only about 25-30 remain to graduate. but i think our class didn't have as many students fail than some of the previousy admitted classes. i hope this helps.

so as long as you have a 3.0 you should be okay, im assuming? how hard do you find the classes to be once you get in?? do you think people are failing bcuz of the instructors or poor studying skills?

i don't think the classes are too difficult. If u study a bit, u should pass with a B. it's just very overwhelming at first because of clinicals, on-campus skills, writing care plans, not to mention all the reading and the skills videos u have to watch. but a far as u don't fall behind on ur reading and keep on top of things, it shouldn't be that bad.

i think people are failing because of poor study habits and plus a lot of students work.. so they probably don't have time to study as much. I don't work, but I was still busy all the reading and studying.

mynewstar,

are you in the day program or the evening/weekend program? I'm taking prereqs now at hcc hoping to get into the night program for Fall 2009.

i'm in the day program.... i believe the instructors are different in the night program.. good luck... and study hard. there might be a wait list. I was waitlisted ... i applied in jan-feb 2007, and was accepted for spring 2008. if ur lucky and u live in howard co. , u might be able to get in the following semester in which u apply. I live in ho. co, but i still had to wait while most of my friends got in. good luck. btw, i recommed dr. morgan for chem, dr. straube for bio, and patty and dr. chandran for a&p- (but these two are very tough but u'll learn alot.) i love all 4 of them ... one of the best instructors i have had..

I read about dr chandran...looks like shes tough and has a rough accent....but you say shes a good teacher. Is she fair and easy to understand?
