Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Starting an LPN program in Iowa in November and just discovered this site. Would love to add some friends here! Thanks.

I've had no issues with either my age nor my gender, if anything I think my instructors like the fact that there are some older students in the room (not just me either) we tend to bring a level of maturity and seriousness to our studies. As for being male, that has not been a problem, again I think my instructors like having a guy to add to the diversity and give a different perspective on things. When it comes to clinicals, again no problems, even in L-D, I was welcomed by the patients and their families, most of whom were interested in my story more than anything. ( Y'know, "so, what made you decide to be a Nurse at your age?")

My previous experience was a CNA (back then we were called Orderlies) over 30 years ago in a LTC facility.

Hi, Guys! I am a female nursing student in my first semester of an ADN-RN program. I just wanted to say thank you! for overcoming stereotypes and joining the nursing force. The profession is that much better with males in the program. We have approx. 10 male students in our group out of 60+ people, and I think they bring a very balanced atmosphere to the class. As an older student, and a mother of two boys (15 yrs & 9 yrs), I can relate with MikeFromMT's reasoning about bringing maturity and a higher level of work ethic to the classroom. Keep up the good work! Cheers! :yeah:
