lpn to rn dilemma

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Opinions needed please. I'm currently an LPN working in a clinic. All of my nursing experience has been in this type of environment. Parts of me would like to try hospital or LTC nursing but I'm not a fan of the long hours, being mandated to stay, or working weekends and holidays. Plus all the nurses I work with tell me horror stories and say they would never go back to that type of nursing. Where I live they utilize LPNs and RNs in clinics. I feel as if I should get my RN so I can get experience elsewhere and also to secure my future. But I'm scared to start school again and in my area we have no convenient bridge programs. All of the LPN to RN programs you have to compete for a spot with students who aren't even nurses. These programs are extremely competitive! I know I can do online programs but I'm not sure if I can learn everything on my own. Is there anyone out there that is in a similar situation as me??
