Has anyone recently used the chancellors systems if so r they good and do they help?

Hello!

The decision is ultimately yours, but resources like Chancellor's, The College Network, Achieve Test Prep, and the like, are VERY VERY expensive in comparison to just using the resources a particular subject matter requires. For instance, if you need an Algebra credit, you can typically take a CLEP exam for around $80 for credit by exam. In the study guide provided by CLEP, you will find a list of references for the subject test, how the test is broken down into categories, etc. Further, you can purchase directly from the test vendor (like CLEP, DSST) practice tests. Also, you can look for open education resources that give you lectures, course material, etc., for FREE in most cases, or for minimal cost. Excelsior College actually has an entire PDF document for credit-by-exam that lists their tests, resources for study, and a very large selection of Open Course free education.

My opinion is that most test prep companies are a rip-off. Some folks might find them helpful, but my experience is that they provide you with a lot of outdated material that is insufficient for the purpose you intend...passing the test and having your credits actually transfer to a degree program! And they will charge you a whole lot of money for resources that are available for free elsewhere. They also tend to bind you into a contract that you cannot get out of in the future, even if you never use the resources they promise to provide. Please exercise caution when checking out test prep companies. Excelsior College has a posting WARNING students about some of the shady practices in which some of these companies engage.

It is a good idea to speak with the College or University you plan to attend and ask THEM, specifically, what is required for their credits, which tests they accept, any prerequisite information, and recommendations on the media they suggest you study. The information from the horses mouth is always better than from a third-party trying to make a sale.

Best of luck!
