This IS nursing school!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hey everyone - just wanted to vent a little bit and tell you all how my second week has been going. We started actual classes last Friday, Monday we had two quizzes, yesterday we had one quiz, today we had a test and a quiz and tomorrow we have a test. We had to read seven chapters this week with a bunch of homework problems.

When they say you will be busy in nursing school, they mean it!

On the bright side, I took my first A&P test today and got a 100! I know it will only get harder so I am glad I did good on the "basics". I also had to work at the pharmacy this week. I have class M-F 8-2:30 and Monday I worked 3-8 and yesterday I worked 3:30-8. Tonight I have off (thank goodness! I have to get ahead in my reading and homework) then tomorrow I work 4-8 and then Saturday 9-1.

Now time for my small venting...

I continue to be amazed at the students in my class who just do not seem to care about school. WHY ARE YOU HERE?!

We had a girl today announce to the teacher that she "doesn't like having a test one day and then a test the next day as well." The instructors response was "get over it".

Like honestly what did you think you were signing on for? We are in a 10 month LPN program! Once we get going we will most likely have a test everyday! And I just don't get it. The quizzes are to show you what you don't know and what you should study. Why would you not study? If you are getting 7 wrong on a 15 question quiz...it's a good indication of what you do and do not know!

I'm sorry but I have been working my butt off studying and trying to stay ahead and for someone to complain about their grades and get mad when they don't study and don't read is just insane. I'm sorry for the vent, but I just had to get it out.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Like if you don't like your grades then do something about it! Alright, well time to get back to work and to hit the books!

Even so---I have gotten two 100's when people have gotten grades in the 40's. We even have had people cry in class and we are just about to start our third week...that says something. For some people, this isn't easy, maybe for you it was, but for others it isn't. I don't expect to maintain a 4.0 in nursing school. I know there will be things I just do not quite understand, or times I am too tired to focus and I will answer incorrectly, I'm just sick of people complaining about their grades when they can change the outcome.

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble but the first module is a breeze. There's a point in nursing school where 4.0 students stop caring about their grades and just feel lucky they passed. If you can pass med surge with NO fails, holy crap, you certainly have brag rights! But really, tests and quizzes aren't just about knowing the material. A lot of the time, they're all situational questions and require critical thinking. The reason why they quiz and test you so much is because they want you to learn test taking strategies. Once you've got that down and know how to answer correctly - even if you don't know the answer - then that's when you know you're ready for the NCLEX

my dear u are there for urself! let those peeps who complain of grades fight their own battles because the ball is in their court. they have two choices! either to study hard and get good grades or do the opposite and get flopped! don't sweat the small stuff.
