Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hello All,

I am currently in the LPN program at Mildred Elley. Sometimes I feel the school is a little unfair in the way they treat their students but, overall it's not a bad school. I graduate in August 2014 and I am unsure on which way to go once I pass my boards. I know Monroe college has a 1+1 program that allows you to do your RN degree in the first year and your BSN in the second year. Only thing I am worried about with that school is the fact it is not NLN accredited. If I attend this school am I going to have trouble furthering my education? What about jobs Will I have a problem with that? Lastly, interstate license transfer. Will this effect the ability of my license being moved over to Florida or Georgia? I saw lots of people talk about the NLN vs non-NLN accreditation and I am very confused. All input is welcome but I really would appreciate input from someone who has graduated from Monroe and is working and/or seeking a higher degree.

Hi I'm very interested in this school and would like to start there soon can you tell me about the admission process and what do you mean you say they treat you unfair any information you can give is appreciated

Well the admission process is....all over the place....I went in spoke to an advisor and soon after set in to take the schools general admission exam, the wonderlic. It was basic math, reading and writing. I scored very well on the wonderlic and I was told I would be called to schedule for the LPN exam which is the Kaplan exam. The school called me to schedule and I wasn't sure I wanted to go because of the cost of the program (30,000). I schedule any way but did not show up. I got called after that about 3-4 times a week over the next few weeks. Each time I spoke to the rep she said it was my last chance to take the exam. I finally gave in an went in to take the exam. Again, it was a really simple exam and they print out your results right then and there but they don't tell you whether you have done well enough to pass. We had a small little meeting where the chairperson explained that the program only allowed 30 students out of the 200+ that tested. He also said the NYC campus was not accepting anymore students but we would attend classes at the NYC campus but will have to go to Albany (main campus) to do clinicals. I left and waited about 2 weeks and I got a call saying that I passed and was chosen for the program and scheduled an appt for financial aid. I came in the first day for "orientation" and was told it would be a weekend program and that my first day of classes was that day! The school isn't a bad school they just do so many things last minute. I feel like they were most concerned about getting us started instead of ironing out the details first. 1 mod after we started another LPN class started and some people who were in my class failed one class but, they were not allowed to stay 1 mod behind with the following LPN class. Mildred Elley is mot convenient for me because I go to school Friday nights and do clinicals Sat and Sun. I have 2 children and work all week full time. If I had not found ME I would have given up on my dream to be a nurse. It cost a lot but at the end of the day convenience won.

Do you really have to take clinicals at the Albany campus? Are things going any better now ?
