Help...Clark State or Miami Valley CTC

Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Any LPN grads out there from Clark State Community College (CSCC) or or Miami Valley Career Tech Center (MVCTC)? What was your experience like? Would you go there again or recommend it to others?

Or anyone else that wants to help me weigh my options?

I'm trying to decide between the two. Here is what I've researched so far:

Clark State Community College:

lower NCLEX pass rate: 85%

costs less $9000 including prereqs

lower graduate job placement: 75%

start program fall 2013;graduate winter 2014 (or later depending on waitlist!)

very low load for 2 years take pre-reqs, then intense 4 quarters

classes are weekends/evenings

work part time while taking pre-reqs and save up money for tuition over 2 yr period but will have to pay prereqs out of pocket and juggle taking prereqs while working part time

reputation? not sure, haven't heard much good or bad

2 summers off and 1 summer of intense classes

Miami Valley Career Tech Center(MVCTC):

higher NCLEX pass rate: 95%

costs more $13000

higher graduate job placement: 86%

start july 2012; graduate summer 2014

3 day schedule for 22 months

classes are days 8-3:30 W, Th, F

will only be able to work part time for one year before starting program but most of that year would be with no classes, just working part time and saving up money

excellent reputation

2 summers of classes

I think Clark State's program may overall fit in better with my life schedule and demands, but the perfectionist in me (and straight A student that I am) is drawn to the excellent reputation and rigor of Miami Valley CTC's program. I know that only I can ultimately decide this, but does anyone have any advice or want to help me hash this out of my head some? Is it worth the extra hassle and money to go to what I see as a better school, when the other option is a good school as well, just possibly not the best? I want to be the best nurse that I can be.
