Any advice for working with a staffing agency? Pro's and Con's?

It kind of depends on where they place you. I work for a pediatric home health agency. I get paid well, esp for where I live. However, there are cases where I give 15 minutes of care and the rest is playing games with the kids, for a 8-10 hour shift. I dislike the low need for nursing care as I feel like an overpaid babysitter at times. I do have one case right now that requires tons of nursing care and I love this case.

I like the ability to "create" my own schedule. My husband travels about 80-90% of the time so it is very nice to be off work when he is home.

In the HH setting there seems to be a lack of feedback on a job well done. Pretty much the agency goes on if the families are happy or not. The do look over your nursing notes, but just randomly to see that your charting is adequate. I have never heard any bad feedback, so I guess no feedback is good feedback!? Since I am a newer nurse occassional feedback would be good.

I could go on and on, but since I don't know what kind of agency and where they place their nurses I won't. What setting are you looking into? If it's HH then you can PM me and I can give you more information.
