Why make a decision about your future on salary alone? Don't get me wrong. Salary is very important but in regards to Nurse vs US Tech there's not enough difference to make yourself miserable being in a field you don't love.

Both jobs have their rewards and downfalls. Listen to your heart not your pocketbook.

yes i do agree on listen to my heart and not my pocket book but it is 2 carrers i cant choose bettween i would love to do both, just cant make up my mind, why not go for the one that pays more?

I thought since you're on a nursing forum and said "this field" that meant you wanted to be a nurse more than anything. Sorry, my mistake.

If you'd be equally happy in either field than I see nothing wrong with going for the one that pays the most. There's actually very little difference in the starting pay. With alot of experience ultrasound techs can earn more than nurses.

its ok i worded it wrong i ment in the medical field. thank ou thow for posting back to me, its just that i read someware that rn start at like $15-18 hr and techs $21-25 hr didnt seam right thats all

New RNs in the Kansas City are are NOT starting out at 15/hr. Most hospitals start them around 20, plus shift differential, which varies from hospital to hospital.

what is shift differential??? how much is that usually??

You usually get paid more for nights and weekends. Anywhere from 1-4$ more. I get $2 an hour more to work nights, and another 3$ an hour on top of that on weekends.

I think in general ultrasound techs earn maybe 5-10 more an hour than RNs, in the hospital at least. But you have to take call (in a hospital, anyhow), and there aren't as many Ultrasound Tech jobs as there are for nurses. Aren't as many ultrasound techs competing for those jobs, it's true, but I still think your options are much more limited than nursing.

I suggest you try to shadow some ultrasound techs and some nurses, and find out what their jobs are like. Also look up the curriculum for each. I think that ultrasound techs are required to take a lot of physics and science, more so than nursing. If you like those things, great. If not, you might want to reconsider.

Consider, too, that if you do one and then find you don't like it, it is not the end of the world. Then you go with plan B, which would be to go to school for the other. You are young, you have plenty of time.

thank you so so so much you have been so helpful to me!! im going to shadow an ultrasound tech next week im soo excited! :redbeathe:yeah::yeah:again thank you
