Philippine BSN Graduate willing to work any state.

I am an immigrant who graduated the LVN program in california and have been working from 2007-2010. I went back to the Philippines to start my BSN education and will be graduating on March 2013. Now I know that California BON will give me a hard time applying for a license, maybe even deny me. My question is, which state will most likely be my best choice. As long as I work for the state corrections, it would not matter where. I just want to get info on states that do not require as much, and take less time to get things going. I really wish to start my RN career ASAP. I would also like to get information on New York BON. How well they treat foreign grads, and if they require a local license for me to apply nclex. Go to the Nurse Registration section and read the various threads there. There is one thread that lists the 13 states that are currently enforcing the concurrency issue. Another thing to consider is that some states have other hiccups. For example, NV is requiring a local license from foreign educated grads. NM is cracking down on state bouncers/stepping stone.

Lastly, as you are a new grad (or will be soon), start your job search early! In CA and NY, new grads are having a horrendous time finding that first job. Other states have the same issue, although to varying degrees. As you want to work for the state corrections facilities, you best have a stellar resume and find a county/state that can actually semi-balance their budget. In Southern CA, there are a lot of correction facilities that are currently under the hiring freeze.

Thank you for your swift response. I appreciate your thoughts and advice. I have seen the 13 states thread just now. Thanks. I have 2 months to plan. I will be reading on more threads before I plan my next move. Maybe the military will be good too. Any thoughts?

There is a section for military (officer) nursing somewhere on the site. Check it out.

Just know that not all branches of the military have openings all the time. It depends on their budgets.
