What are places using for patient education on PICC lines, what it is, care for, dressing changes, etc? I'm trying to find or write something very simple and easy for patients to understand. Anyone have anything the are using or know where I can get something? Thanks in advance.

Debbie, when I had a PICC set for TPN last year our PICC line department nurse gave me a brochure from the company that makes the .... ooops forget the exact spelling/name Grogen ?? ... the company that provides that double port type of PICC line. In addition my PICC nurse explained the procedure and showed me the various apparatus. She used a portable ultrasound machine to find the vein she opted to use and then a portable xray machine was used to verify placement. I'm sorry my mind has gone blank on the name of the doggone PICC line tip that was used. Double lumen? Anyway, I had been pretty leery until she explained things then gave me the brochure to read whilst she did other things. I then had home health care that came in each day (two days running) to show me how to "do" the TPN, flushing, etc. myself and after that once a week for blood draw, changing, etc. It was a piece of cake since I had an understanding from the start of what to expect. Hopefully you will recognize the name of the company for the PICC line tip.

Groshong!!! It was a pamphlet from the company that makes or provides the Groshong PICC.
