NOTHING is working out --need some advice Ivy Tech Evansville

U.S.A. Indiana

First off this is going to be long, but I really need some help from someone other than the Ivy Tech staff.

Last spring I decided to leave University of Evansville after completing 101 credits. It was a major life decision but I finally knew what I wanted. After being a CNA for 5 years, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. So I applyed to Ivy Tech and found out that I needed ANP 1 and 2 before I could start. I was a little dissappointed since this would set me back a year to take only these two classes, but I dealt with it. So now I am enrolled in ANP 1 and Micro. I met with an advisor last week, but was told that since I haven't been to a Mandatory Nursing Session, I couldn't take my TEAS. So I tried to set up an appointment for a session and the next one they have open is APRIL 3RD!!! The deadline for applying to fall 2009 is APRIL 1st.... so now I can't even apply becaue I have to sit through this meeting first. They said I could call a week before each meeting to see if there have been any cancellations, but that's not a very good chance.

I'm really at a loss as to what to do. I do not want to wait til Spring 2010 to even start nursing. I have been in college for four years now and am really ready to just start working. I guess i'm just pretty stressed because I feel as if I gave up stuff to do this and now I can't even apply. (not to brag but I do have a 4.0 gpa and am bringing in a 3.69 from UE) So I'm not worried about not getting in.

ANY advice would really really be appreciated. And THANK you soo much if you read all this.

I'm originally from Iowa so I was thinking maybe moving closer to home if i could get into a nursing program somewhere. Maybe the Terre Haute campus?? but then i need a new apartment. Grr. It's just so frustrating. Please help.

Honestly, I wouldn't call. I would just show up for each scheduled Info Session. The chances of someone being late, or not showing at all are pretty good and you could get in if there is an opening. Also, you may want to try other campuses if there is another in your area. Good luck!!

Edited for this extra info....

Not sure if you already know this or not, but Ivy Tech does not take GPA into account for admission to the nursing program. They have a points-based system and they take your grades from ANP 101 and 102, English 111 and Psych. You get 30 points for an A, 20 for a B, 10 for a C.

They add that to your total from your TEAS and you get 3 points if you apply in the region where you live.

Total is 223.

make sure you speak to the Nursing director, or someone in the nursing department. The regular counselors do not always know what is what. I had quite a run around because the advisor I dealt with told me different information than the nursing department.

I have never heard of having to have the nursing info session before taking the teas. Here at northwest Indiana Ivy Techs, you need to have both before the application deadline, but there is no requirement for which is first. But, again, make sure you are speaking with the nursing dept!!!!

You can take your TEAS anywhere - I took mine at ISU and it can still go between any other schools. Check this out - you can still beat the deadline. Hope this helps!

I go to Ivy Tech. It was a fast decision I made in applying, hence a very fast process of applying, taking TEAS, attending the information meeting, and transferring.

I actually did not even go to my information session until after I had been accepted.

Email the nursing chair directly (as I did). Perhaps you will be able to do as I did.

Good luck.
