Nursing or phlebotomy

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello,

I am currently not in the medical field at all. I have a bachelors degree in History, but havent found a job yet. I am looking into going to school to eventually become an RN. I was thinking of possibly getting my CNA or do a phlebotomy program to help get me in the medical field more quickly so that I can begin to gain experience. What are some opinions on this? Should I even bother with this, or keep the job I have now while working on prereqs. I still havent decided on a school to do my nursing program. Does anyone have any suggestions around the Chicago area? I could possibly go back to the Springfield area also if there is a great program there too. Thank you so much!

I would get the CNA certificate because many of the nursing programs in the Chicagoland are require it, especially the community colleges. If you work as a CNA in a hospital, you will see much more than working as a phlebotomist. At my hospital, the CNAs do all the blood draws anyway... :)
