New RN Grad moving to Chicago...help with applying for license!

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I currently live in Ohio and I will be graduating in 4 weeks from The University of Akron. My fiance and I are moving to Chicago over the summer, so I have been looking for RN positions around the Chicagoland area. I have also been researching how to apply for the Illinois nursing license because the process is a little different than what we have learned about in Ohio. I am frustrated because I cant seem to get anyone on the phone to help me understand what all the steps are for applying (I want to be sure I do not miss anything..I would like to take the NCLEX in mid-June).

My questions are:

1. Can I apply for licensure online?

2. If I do apply online, can I do that now? Or do I have to wait until after commencement?

3. If I apply now, before commencement and I apply online, will it matter that the ED-NUR form does not get there until after commencement?

I don't know if I sound like a complete idiot, but it is difficult trying to organize everything 7 hours away..especially when no one seems to understand my questions!!

Thank you! :redbeathe

Getting licensed with Illinois is a huge pain due to the face they do not have a Board of nursing. All profession are regualted by the same board (real estate, law, ect....)

I am a Iowa nurse who just went through the process of getting endorced by Illinois. It was a pain, but can be done.

First of all go to this site; http://www.idfpr.com/

On the left hand bar click on Nurses. If you are testing in illinois you want to go to the right hand column and under Registered Professional Nurse click the on-line examination option. If you are taking the RN in your state and want to be endorsed in Illinois click on written application.

I hope this helps, if you need anything else let me know.
