chicago area phlebotomy for LPN

Hi! A while back I posted a similar thread and got no replies!

Please help...

I am an LPN who works agency. Two gals at the offices within two days have expressed that they are shocked my school didn't include phlebotomy in the LPN curriculum (I went to Kankakee Community College in Central, IL).

I was wondering if anyone knew of an accelerated way to get this certification.

I took the phlebotomy certification program at the College Of Lake County up in Graylake, IL (far northern 'burbs). The program was about 12 weeks long (including your 2 weeks of clinical rotation at a hospital they assign). It was a lot of work, but a pretty decent program. I was hired by the hospital where I did my clinical rotation - even before my rotation was done I was offered the job. Don't believe what you read on the 'net though - the pay for phlebotomists is awful (at least in the northern 'burbs) - $10-11 per hour if you are just coming out of school.

I'd check other community colleges if Grayslake is too far for you.

HI, I went through a program at Wright College in Chicago, it wasn't accelerated though. It was 6 months long, but I'm pretty darn good at it. I took the class so I'd be able to get a job as a PCT (in a hospital) while in NS. Check with the allied health divisions w/in comm. colleges around your area, they should be able to help. Be prepared to have clinicals along w/classroom lecture.
