Does your hospice offer continuous care? If so, I am interested in knowing what situations you generally offer it for. Do you have a specific trigger list? How often is it used? Do you use prn staff or otherwise? What is your continuous care census compared to your general census?

Our hospice is in the process of building a CC Center . It will have 14 beds with area to expand. It will be staffed with RN's and Aides. With an on-call MD. It will be used by 16 counties. I'm afraid we will be full with in a matter of days when it opens. There is such a need. Our hospice has never offered CC and I always feel bad for the families that really need this service. I feel we leave them hanging out to day.

I did home health in a rural area for years, and would have given ANYTHING, to have had access to a hospice facility. During one particular year, I had two really bad cases: one with metastatic ca, and the other was my first AIDS patient. I was up day AND night with both of them....and with no support from the Agency I worked for. God bless ALL of you!

You might want to contact one of the larger Hospices to get info on CC. Try Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. They have a CC department. http://WWW.thehospice.org
