Hello All:

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you very much! I have been working on setting up my agency for over a year now and in that time I stumbled across this website which has been invaluable to me. Ive gotten alot of ideas that have continually changed my focus and efforts but the biggest thing I gained from this website is seeing the passion that nurses bring to their agencies and seeing that the majority of you really want to see that the patient is taken care of, you enjoy your jobs, and you are well compensated for what you do. As I was building the business plan I tried my hardest to take all of these things into consideration, but I can tell you its tough based on what the profit margins are in this industry(razor thin), so I am trying to balance a good work enviornment with getting the nurses in to see as many patients per day as possible so we can stay afloat. But thanks a ton for the information and passion you guys bring to the table! Now I am finally jumping into the licensing process here in california which will take months and as I get prepared to open shop I finally wanted to jump on here to get clarification on some things. I'd like to get feedback over the next few months from you who are on the frontlines, versus just my consultant or other agency owners. So I have some questions here you guys could help me with and I'll have plenty more over the months but hopefully I will be able to establish a strong, fun agency that is a model for the way it should be done. Thanks again guys!

Chris

1.) What software do you guys use at your agency if any? Do you like it? If not what is a pain?

2.) What is your preferred salary method? The point system, salary, per patient? What is wrong with how you get paid now? If salary, what do you feel would be fair and how many patients could you comfortable handle for that salary?

3.) What is your preferred patient load? Per day, overall?

4.) For those of you in small agencies what organizational structures have you seen work best and worst. I want to start off with as little staff as possible( of course ), so who would you definitely have in place to run the agency and what fat do you think you could cut from your current place?

I have a ton of questions I would love to ask hh nurses nationwide and get honest feedback but thats plenty for now. I guess I would just ask you guys to gripe to me about problems in your current situation so I could try to avoid upset employees at my agency as much as possible. Ive read many gripes here and they all seem correctable by an owner that cares so please lay it on me. Keep in mind I do want to make money though, so sorry, no lexus coupes to all field nurses requests please. Thanks a ton guys!
