question about the reading comprehension/math portion of the HESI a2!!

Nursing Students HESI

Hi! I have to take the exam next month and was just wondering what I can expect for the reading comprehension portion. I bought the elsevier study guide and some practice tests and I do really poorly in this section but don't know how to improve as I don't think that re-reading the same passage will help. How does the test compare to the study guide (for those who have purchased it?) is this section rushed? I know i'll be fine if I can take my time but am a fairly slow reader which is why I'm nervous.

About how many passages were there?

also, is the time allotted for the test the TOTAL time you have to take it or is there still a time limit per section (for example, if I finish all sections quickly will I have more time for my last one or is there a limit per section)

finally, as far as the math section, my study guide has me go through a lot of decimal multiplication/division, aren't we allowed calculators though? will it even be necessary to do these calculations by hand?

thanks!

The test has a built in calculator. The math section isn't too bad; alot of basic conversions, ratio/proportion, ALOT of fractions, decimals, percentages, some word problems.

Reading was easy. Alot of finding the authors tone, summarizing, inferences, etc.

Where I took it we had 5hrs and 15mins to take the exam. No breaks the clock just kept going as you moved into each section.

The math was easy I had two military time questions, tons of ratio ?, dividing and adding fractions. I did not have any subtracting of fractions, but make sure you know how. I memorized the conversation chart for metric and English. Then I quickly wrote it down in the scratch paper they give. So I was prepared for those conversions of liters to mililiters.

Reading comprehension was okay. I'm that person that re reads over and over lol. But it was defining words in the passage, inferences, conclusions, and main idea. The passages are short which is good. I always read the question and answers first before I read the passage.

If you have any other questions let me know. I wish I would have scored a little higher in vocab and A&P make sure you do outside studying for those two the evolve book doesn't give enough material. I did the HESI pocket prep App and quizlet + the book.

My cumulative score was an 82.4  I hope that is good enough to get in.

Good luck!
