My experience with the HESI A2

Nursing Students HESI

Published

I took the HESI today! (Math, Reading Comp, Vocab & Grammar)

I can tell you right now that the Hesi Admission Assessment by Elsevier was not all that helpful at all. I kept seeing a ton of people say that but I blew it off.

Math - The math is pretty basic (High School Math Pre-Algebra)... A ton of fractions, conversions, ratios, percentages and word problems. If you are not that good at math STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY & THEN STUDY SOME MORE fractions (Khan Academy via youtube is great!) If you aren't good at fractions you darn well better be before you schedule a date to take the HESI. Know your conversions!!!!! (Kilometers, Milliliters, Ounces, Grams, etc.)

Reading Comprehension - Pretty basic! (when I say basic I am talking elementary school level reading comprehension questions) 2 to 3 paragraphs asking general questions about the author's point of the story. Reading comp was my highest score! There were about 5 different stories with 10 questions each. I had a story about Mr. Rodgers, Food, Homophones, etc.

Grammer - Easy! Their, There, They're! If you know the difference you will survive.

Vocabulary - Pretty freaking annoyed  I studied my ass off (literally day and night for 2 weeks straight). There is nothing that can honestly prep you for the vocab section.

The vocab section in the Elsevier book is 100% worthless  The words I remember from the book were Overt, Acute, Posterior, Anterior, Untoward. All of the other words were completely foreign to me. I did my best and guessed most of the time. I was expecting at least an 85% but I only received a 75%

The test experience - We were each asked for our identification. We were allowed to have our purses and phones in the room but the instructor individually came over and asked to see that our phones were turned off. We were not allowed to have anything else on our desk aside from pencil & paper. Our purses were placed on a shelf and we were no longer able to have access too it until testing was over. He scanned each student for a few seconds at a time quite frequently. It was super distracting! We were allowed to get up and use the restroom (one person at a time) but we were not allowed to leave the building nor were we allowed to be gone for more than several minutes.

The girl next to me was starved because her tummy kept rumbling and that was super annoying so please make sure you eat before the test! lol

If you have any questions feel free too ask :)

I wonder where are you now. This post is from last year i would love you to chat with you!.
