Nurses Stress 101

Published

Let me just start out by saying I have been an LPN for about a year and a half. The first job I got was in a clinic that I did really enjoy. However, two weeks into the job one nurse got fired, and three months in, the other nurse moved. I was the only nurse in my end of the clinic and had to handle all procedures, all nurse visits and help room patients for about 3 months. (my RN supervisor went out for maternity leave and my RN manager managed many different clinics and was not always available to help). I was the opener, and the closer of my clinic and had not been adequately trained on all procedures and sometimes had to "wing it" and held most of the responsibility. I went home every night depressed on the verge of tears. Finally after about 7 months I couldn't take it anymore and left that clinic for another in the company that was closer to home.

I thought I would enjoy this clinic but I do not. I now work in prime care. I feel I enjoy the specialties more. Now we have 5 staff getting ready to go out/leave our clinic for various reasons. We have had 4 people leave since I started about 7 months ago. (Some providers and some non-provider positions) and I just feel down again. I am terrified to see what will happen when these people leave. I am dreading it. I honestly have been looking for a non-nursing position because I just want to get out. I love nursing, I love helping people. But I dislike my current position very much. I am trying to wait patiently on another position to open in my area. There have been openings in other clinics closer to where I worked originally but I hate the drive because of the winter and snow. I just don't know what to do.
