Any one in the KCC ADN program

U.S.A. Hawaii

Hi!

I am taking my NLN exam to get into the ADN program at KCC in July for Spring 09, just wanted to know from a students perspective what the program is like.

Thanks!!!

:nuke:

My friend is at the last semester at KCC, from original group of 105 people 27 are left. Good luck!

Wow! I hear it is really tough. I havent even applied for the program yet and I'm scared. What was her grade point average? And do you know what she got on her NLN exam. I just want to see if I have a chance.

Thanks

Jessica

i'm an alternate for fall 08

i applied with A's in all the pre-reqs but i only had one or two support courses done. my nln was like 158 IIRC. i pretty much didn't get in b/c of the support courses so they're pretty important to have. KCC doesn't count courses you're currently taking so the A&PII Micro an stuff i took this past spring didn't count when i submitted my app. i shouldn't have any difficulty getting in for spring 08 but after talking to the UHM advisors they said i shouldn't have trouble getting in to UHM either. i'm pretty sure i'm gonna go with UHM.

there's a couple KCC nursing student posters on forumshawaii.net as well in the "school life" section. they come on here every once in awhile but i think they frequent forumshawaii more often. just look for some of the nursing threads in the school subforum

I think I mixed up colleges. I meant Kingsborough Community College in New York.

( KCC) Sorry.

haha i was wondering why those numbers sounded completely different from what i've seen of KCC (hawaii)'s program.

KCC (hawaii) has a wayyy higher retention rate.

In Hawaii? That is amazing! What is the actual percentage of people who finish the program? Thanks.

i would say at least 90%! hopefully you have a class that supports each other.

around there. i know Manoa's BSN program graduates about 90% usually. i think KCC was about the same. :)

both programs are very highly competitive so it's pretty rare for people that can't hack it to get accepted in the first place. that and both programs have great instructors that want you to succeed.

Yeah, uh, I think that would be me =]. But like I said in the above thread, if you have any questions about the KCC ADN program feel free to PM me. I just finished my first couple of semesters but any helpful advice that I can give, I will.

Hey! I got a 111 on my nln do I even stand a chance to get in? Also what was your grade point average? I want to apply for adn program for spring 2009. I only have a 3.5 gpa.

How is the program so far? and the teachers? do you work?

Have you talked to Wes about your scores? He was really helpful in breaking everything down for me. As far as your NLN score goes, I really think you need to get that up. You can take the test once every 6 months and I highly suggest you do so again. How did you study for it?

That book helped me a lot with the test.

As far as your GPA is concerned, it looks okay. I applied with a 3.7ish, but I was missing pharm at the time. I think my nln score is what saved me, I forgot the exact number but I scored in the low 140's.

I worked during the first semester, that was pretty easy. The second, however, I had to quit working. It's like night and day. You really get into disease processes and how NCLEX questions will be like, so it's going to be a rude awakening for you. I highly suggest cutting back, if not quitting all together. In the end it'll be worth it. As far as teachers go you get good ones, and you get bad ones, it's the same with any program.
