I joined the Reserves in 2000 as an enlisted Petroleum Supply Spec. I recently got a direct commission into the Army Nurse Corp. I will keep you posted on what to expect once I go to OBC.

You ask a very vague question which is difficult to answer. I spent 14 years active Army and last 5 in Army Reserves. The first question you need to ask yourself is what you want ot do? The follow on to this is how will the Army Reserves will help you achieve that goal. The reserves offer some exceptional programs for sure, but Army life is not for everyone. If you join the reserves, be prepared for mobilizations and time away from family and freinds. So you need to decide the risk/benefit ratio for your goals. I think the reserves offer opportunities that you won't find anywhere else, as long as they are opportunities you are looking for.

Hope that helps a little.

Merry Christmas Franklyn

Could you list some of those opportunities that you feel you can not find else where , how long are those mobilization for.

How about financially how would that be.How do reservist fair in that. I am a RN with a BSN.

Could you point out risk and benefits.

What type of setting do they put nurses in:a hospital on a base or or like a medic on the field do you know?

Thanks for your time

Hope your holidays are awesome

Thanks

Angela-

deployments- could be as much as 18 months

risks - death

benefits - taking care of men and women who protect our freedoms and those of other countries. Taking part in history, not watching it unfold on TV.

Pay - http://www.dfas.mil/money/milpay/pay/proposed-paytable2005.pdf

you would be a First Lieutenant unless you have prior RN experience.

Settings - There are combat medics for situations that you might be inferring. However, there's always a chance of coming under fire... unfriendly or friendly. My friend who is a reservist is in Germany at a medical center in the E.D., which is probably equals level one or two stateside. So she is getting great experience. While overseas, I believe she will not pay taxes, will get free on base housing or housing allowance, and a food allowance.

Check out military.com too.

Hope this helps a little,

Jason

You have your BSN.........I heard they are dieing for CRNA's.......They have thier own program you can attend...........Thats a safe bet.......Well no job in the military is completely safe, but its one of the safest in my opinion...........Plus the pay, and when you retire in 20 years if you choose so, the benefits are great, plus you'll have a high paying job.
