Reserves or Active Duty?

I am trying to decide between the Army reserves or active duty. I plan on attending CRNA school. My credit is only okay, so I don't think that I can qualify for grad plus or private loans.

I know that I can apply for direct ascension to USAGPAN and receive a monthly stipend while in school, with the tuition paid for, in exchange for a 4.5 year commitment.

I have read about the STRAP and HLPR programs for the reserves, but I am not sure how they compare to active duty as far as monthly stipend, tuition paid, and commitment required. Also, what school would you attend?

My main concern with becoming active duty at this time is moving my family to Texas. My husband is also a little concerned about deployment and the risks involved, although he understands that serving is something that I feel very strongly about.

If anyone could share information about deployment condition for CRNA's-either active duty or reserves- it would be helpful. For example, where do you get deployed? Is it a FST or a CSH or a base somewhere other than your home base?

Thanks for all your help. I know I have a lot of questions. This is a big decision!

only info that i can tell you is with active duty, the army covers over $100k in student loans opposed to $50k with the reserves. that's all i know! and of course active duty has better incentives and benefits:)
