NTP information

Ok, so my husband got word that he will be going to NTP in Vegas. I was wondering what NTP is like. Is it more like school or like a real nursing job? I'm asking because it looks like it will be over Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I need to start looking into plane tickets if I want to see or make sure the little one sees him over the holidays. He isn't taking his recruiter's word until he sees it in writing, but I just want to be as prepared as possible for what may happen.

NTP is more like a senior nursing clinical... he'll be assigned a preceptor and work their schedule. It'll be up to the NTP coordinator to determine if people work on holidays (with their preceptor). Along with working a part-time schedule, he'll have some paper assignments. Maybe a group presentation. It really depends on the NTP coordinators.

I was contacted months in advance by my NTP coordinator. And once he gets a name/email, he'll be able to ask those questions.

I went to Scottsdale's NTP and we stayed at a hotel. My coordinators treated us like adults and our room was ours. Many of us had family visit... one had her husband LIVE with her.

Hope that helps. Also, by Vegas, you mean Nellis... which I hear is a fairly slow hospital. I know a couple nurses out there! But he'll probably be too busy for the strip, so no fear. ;)

Thanks! My cousin in currently stationed at Nellis so he's hoping they will get to hang a little. I'm not even worried about the strip. With me losing my job when we move and him being so tight-fisted, he won't spend anything unless it's absolutely necessary. Hopefully he will have some definitive information shortly. I hate being in limbo. I understand that it's the military way, but jeez! LOL!

Has anyone had a gap between COT and NTP? DH was told that there is a gap of up to two weeks at times.
