Navy Reserve then Active Duty?

Hi everyone. I am a 31 yr old female with a prior BA, I just finished my first year of a BSN program in Denver, will graduate in Fall of '08, and am looking at joining the military. I am trying to find out as much info as I can regarding the Navy Reserves and the Navy and it's nursing program. I had thought of doing Reserves while in school and then going active duty once I graduate. Can I do that? And is it advisable for me to go that route? I spoke with 1 recruiter who was not very knowledgeable, couldn't answer my questions and never got back to me with other resources. I am trying to find out if my prior degree would allow me to go in as an officer, approximately how long my committment would be, how I would go about starting the process and basically every other issue you can think of...:>) Again, the recruiter I talked to was not helpful in any way, had no specifics for me and did not give me any other resources. I have been on the military.com site and the NNCA.org site as well and am waiting on some responses from those sites but was hoping that someone here may be able to give me some suggestions. Thanks, in advance, for all your help.

ENS PM-

Thanks for the thought and you're right I did O.K. for the first semester, haven't been in school in 10 years. Also during the semester the Mrs. had some medical problems that landed her in the hospital for a week, so was dealing with that too. Nonetheless, held it all together, now for round 2. If you need help with your package, let me know or if you want a copy of mine, it's all yours.

LCDR Dan,

I would be very grateful for any help you are willing to provide me with for my DUINS package. Right now I'm just working on taking a couple of master level classes. I'll be taking a theory class in Jan. then I'll be taking a care of special populations class in March. Also, I found out a couple of wks ago that I am on the list for the Mercy Deployment this summer; so I'm getting pretty excited about that. So hopefully the combination of those two things will look good to the DUINS board. However, now I don't plan on apply to DUINS until after my 2nd tour; that way I can get more clinical experience under my belt. I'm looking at possibly going to Guam for my 2nd tour, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see what OCONUS billets are open when its time for me to PCS.

I hope all is well with your wife.
