Navy NCP Question!

I am a former Marine waiting to hear back from two nursing schools I applied for to see if I have been accepted. I should know somethig by mid November. If so I will be going into my junior year of nursing school. I was wanting to know when should I start getting the process rolling for the Navy's NCP and what do I need to do? Any advice?

I would start immediately. There is a lot to gather for your packet and you need to check and see when the next board meets to review packets for NCP. When I did it in '97, they only reviewed packets every so many months. First thing I would do is check with a Nurse Corps OFFICER Recruiter, do not go to an enlisted recruiter. Tell them you are interested in NCP and get the info. Good luck. You will need an officer interview for your packet, I'd be happy to interview you for it, let me know.

I started the process the first week of April, and was pretty timely in completing all of the paperwork, interviews, and physical.. Everything was in by the middle of May. Then it had to go to the professional board, medical, and Navy medical manpower for final processing, which was took the majority of the time... I wasn't a final select until the last week of August, and signed my contract the first week of September. I would definitely get going on all the paperwork, and try and get your physical done, so then when you get the acceptance letter you can submit it right away.

Oh and BTW make sure you get hooked up with a Medical programs officer recruiter.

So even though I havent been accepted yet its ok to start the process? What happens if iI am not accepted? Whats an officer interview and what does it intel and how and where is it conducted LCDR Dan? Thank you both so much for answering my questions.

I am sure you can start the packet of paperwork at least and start working on that.. You won't be able to submit it until you get the acceptance letter. My recruiter set up the interviews I did both of them over the phone with nurse corps commanders. The content is pretty much like any job interview. I guess when you should start the process if your confident you will be accepted, because it would suck to complete that pile'o'paperwork for nothing.

In your original post you state that "if accepted you will go into your Junior year." Are you not currently in school? How can you go into your Junior year if you not currently going to school? Explaining that will help us answer your most recent question. Regarding the officer interview, part of the NCP process is to be interviewed by a nurse corps officer. This can be done in person or over the phone, I did one for another member on here a few weeks ago. There is an interview sheet I fill out and send back to your recruiter, not a big deal. Basically i ask you questions about why you want to be a Navy nurse, blah, blah, blah and I give my opinion on what potential you have as a nurse corps officer. That's how the interview goes.
