Hi all, I am an RN with my BSN and 6 years experience. I am interested in pursuing a career as a nurse in the Air Force, but with a GPA of 2.8 wondering if it's even worth looking into? I understand experience is important. However, does anyone know if after a certain amount of years experience can help offset GPA? I know things are really competitive currently, but thought it couldn't hurt to glean some information here. I currently have an email and phone call out to a Health Recruiter but so far no luck in reaching her, so any information is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Since I have noticed that some people are stating that you cant retake nursing courses to raise GPA, I believe that is true. I retook pre-requisite course work to raise my GPA (medical micro biology, A&P I II). As far as what grades you received during your actual nursing course I think you may have to stick with them. I have never heard of anyone being accepted back into nursing school only to take a handful of classes. I don't believe it works that way unfortunately.

The primary reason I went back and retook those three classes besides the raise in GPA is because CRNA schools look at that for admission criteria. I may want to get into CRNA education a few years down the road after my BSN graduation. It works for me but your situation is different than my own. If you have managed to work for 6 years as a BSN than I think you have a decent shot at a commission. All you can really do is ask a health care recruiter and find out.
