AFNC April '12 Boards

Anyone out there applying to the AF Nursing boards this coming April? I had applied to the Nov '11 boards but was one that was not picked for unknown reasons (really, there isn't one listed anywhere and my recruiter is in the dark too, but says I can reapply).

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how many nurse are estimated to be selected for this board? I am ER/Trauma for 7+ years and am out of certifications I can get at this point so I'm in a holding pattern. I am finishing my bachelors in July but was told this should not have been the issue. So, any one else out there in similar shoes who can commiserate with me?

Also, I know the applications are due in April, but I don't know the exact date, nor have I heard when we should know if we picked or not. So any info would be great at this point.

Thanks!

my recruiter told me I would have to wait 12 months between applying is this not accurate for you?

According to my recruiter (who is a healthcare professional recruiter) there is a waiver you can sign that allows you to reapply before the 12 month period. Now, that being said, he was also told that any of his non-selects could be resubmitted if they were sent to the Nov '11 boards, no waiver needed. So, we tried to get my app back down for this most recent board in Jan, however the applications were due Jan 4th, but FedEx wasn't running the 3rd (Monday) due to it being New Years. So we held my app back for April with the understanding we didn't need that waiver. So, really, who knows. I've also had to redo my CV twice because they decided to change the format, and the nine questions were changed mid-application process as well, all the while saying they "need more nurses". It also could be because I'm going in for ER. I understand there are different stipulations for each area of nursing, so I don't know for sure, but suspect, this may be the case.

hey rndiver82, its kdazzle.

just wanted to update you and let you know that i wasnt selected. my recruiter strongly believes its because im not done with school yet. im not done till june/july. i was reading that you are not done either. i wonder if that was the reason you werent picked the first time. my brother is in the army and he said that they dont even let you apply for their boards until someone is done with school, but who knows. everyone says something different so its so hard to know what to believe. if you apply for this april board, i hope that is not a factor and you get in. when i talked to my recruiter a couple days ago about reapplying in september, he didnt mention to me about having to wait 12 months to reapply so i will have to bring that up to him. september board is the new fiscal year too so i dont know if that makes a difference or not. maybe new fiscal year applicants are ok but maybe applying for two boards in the same fiscal year is what you need a waiver for but who knows. keep me updated. talk to you soon.

Kdazzle~I feel your pain about not getting selected and I wish I had a reason. My education wasn't a factor because another recruit who was picked in my group was still in school, so my recruiter said that couldn't have been the reason I did not. I have everything ready for April, but if I don't get picked again I am simply going to follow my hubby as he goes into the Navy, get my Masters and then go into the Navy reserves. Or I may go full active Navy, I haven't made that decision yet. Don't get me wrong, the AF is still my #1 choice, but I can't keep my family in limbo. Now, you say that the Sept boards are for the next fiscal year. I thought the fiscal year started in October, so are they setting a due date in Sept and the board meets in Oct? That way I could see it. Plus, are those 170 spots the total number of nurses for the entire AF, or for certain specialties?Again, I'm really sorry you didn't get picked. I certainly understand the let down feeling and am still a little hurt from it, but it's getting better and I'm hopeful for April.
