UGA Nursing school?

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

My wife and I are RNs in Texas and considering moving to my home in GA. We have a daughter thats a HS senior and wants to major in Nursing. We were in Athens visiting family over T-Giving and she fell in love with the school and area. My aunt told me that UGA was starting a program in the future, but the only thing I can find on the website is a partnership with GRU with a campus in Athens. Does anyone know of a future RN program at UGA. She has 2 yrs of core to obtain, but would like to stay in the same place. Thanks for any advice.

That IS the UGA program. They consolidated with Augusta this past year.

Contrary to what others may believe, there is NOT a UGA nursing program (nor do I think there are plans for one anytime soon). However, GRU does have a nursing school campus in Athens. I attended it for my MSN, and while it is in Athens, it is not on the UGA campus. It's actually in a little strip mall about 10-15 minutes away from UGA (which is not the Health Sciences campus that the Athens medical students attend or the campus you will note on the GRU-UGA medical partnership website). From what I've heard, the BSN program is quite competitive, as every aspiring nurse who attends UGA wants to go there to stay in Athens. Despite the small campus, I do advise the program. The instructors want their students to succeed and are pretty easily accessible. Plus, I believe the classes are smaller and the students really get a chance to connect and support one another.
