Sick of interviewing in Georgia! Rant/venting

U.S.A. Georgia

Am I the only one who is tired, I mean really, really tired of applying for job after job after job and going to interviews only to #1 never hear anything as promised, #2 hear back but job has changed or #3 get job but then job changes or isn't what was described?

I lived somewhere else before here and have NEVER had the hard time I've had since moving to Ga. with the interview process...it takes a lot of time to apply online only to never know if your resume/application makes it anywhere and when I have heard back/interviewed I've been stood up twice, had jobs offered that are not what I interviewed for or not heard back as promsied - if at all. Or interviews are conducted a 2nd or 3rd time and now there is this "new" idea of shadowing - which I personally think is a waste of time and an extra burden for the nurse having to have someone tag along that is no even hired.

What happened to being able to apply, have an interview and find out then or soon after whether you've gotten the job or not? I've accepted more jobs I have not wanted just to keep the money coming in until I find something I can commit to long term.

I am getting ready to start another job that I really do not want but am grateful to have that was not the job I interviewed for but the one I was offered - I can't afford to go w/o working any longer but I do not understand why the healthcare facilities post jobs they don't have etc.

After yet another day of this I completely broke down - I mean SOBBING - at home of course - which I never do. I have NEVER been this disillusioned or pessimistic about nursing - EVER - in the 20+ years I've done it.

I'm sure someone is going to post we should live below our means - trust me, we do so I'm not money hungry, or someone else is going to tell me it's all how I look at it - I've tried the pie-eyed, blue bird of happiness view and I can no longer deny the bird has eaten the pie and pooped the remains on my head!

Am I the only one who feels this...frustrated and valueless?

I am so sorry to hear this. If I may ask, what general area of Ga. are you located? I am considering going to nursing school, here in Ga. and working here. I am now wondering if this is a bad idea/waste of time.

North of ATL - too far too work in ATL though..If you do go to school for nursing I would STRONGLY encourage you to live near enough the larger cities in Ga. to get any chance at any type of decent job...living in a small community, too far from the larger cities REALLY places limits on the types of jobs that are available. I would have NEVER moved to this area is I had ANY idea the jobs here were as tight as they are - when I relocated here it was because a hospital in this area assured myself and a few others that jobs were easy to come by as no one wanted to live this distance from ATL, etc. NOT SO.

If I were to get into nursing again, I most likely would look at Texas, Florida, S.C. for employment - Ga. is not, overall for any business, a great place to work right now. I may still go medical but not nursing - at least not a 4 yr degree to start off with

Yeah, I just moved from north of Atlanta. I was more in the Athens area just prior to moving. I moved to middle Ga. Ga's economy has suffered severely. I never dreamed that nursing jobs were so hard to come by here.

I may be rethinking my plans and career.

AH! Same area I am in now..REALLY, REALLY, REALLY dislike it here!! Would LOVE to be able to move closer to ATL. As far as nursing, you may want to consider nuclear med tech type program, PT, OT, etc. LOTS of jobs, lots of $

Athens seemed to be okay. It is better than the surrounding towns. I know they have Athens Regional and St. Mary's and several medical facilities there. However, if you ended up in the Commerce or Winder Area, then you have my condolences. In the nearly 20 years I lived in that area those towns went from bad to better to the lowest realm of hell.

Yep...you are right now about those areas. I've had 2 apps in at ARMC for literally months..still showing they are being considered. What drives me crazy is when an interview is done and the hiring manager says they will definitely be back in touch one way or another and will do so in a week or two and I hear nothing..so I follow up like a good little interviewee and still..nothing. I am tired of getting my hopes up and feel like I am sentenced to this position I have now. I should not be complaining as I have a job..and I am grateful for that part of it..it would just be nice to at least like what I do instead of feeling like I HAVE to do...I don't know..guess I'm just disillusioned right now with nursing in general. I know my outlook isn't helping..

I'm sorry about your situation. I'm from GA and couldn't find a job in the entire state! I literally went down the list of state hospitals and applied for jobs. I received a call from one hospital in my hometown and I didn't have enough experience for the position, and they had hired several travel nurses to pick up the slack. After 8 months of uncertainty, I began looking for jobs in Texas. Two weeks later, I had a job offer. I hate that I had to move so far from home in order to find a job, but Texas has been pretty good to me.

I am sorry to hear that you are having so much difficulty. Have you tried working with a recruiter to find positions or looking for non-hospital nursing positions?

i am so sorry you are having so much trouble and hate it so badly. i am from athens and love it here. is there anything i can do?
