Does anyone know what the starting rates are for new graduates at Grady, Emory, Atlanta Medical Center, Dekalb Medical Center, Piedmont, and Northside are? And any other hospital I might have forgotten. And can anyone tell me if they have intern, extern, or residency programs for new RNs?

Emory is a great place to work. Emory healthcare just increased their hourly rate for RNs. That makes it one of the most paying for RNs right now. Their facilities are teaching institutions so it is a great learning experience for everyone. I was not a new grad when I started, but they have a wonderful orientation program for nurses in general. I would look into them if you want to deliver quality care. They also pay 80% of your tuition if you are going to school, up to 18 credits per calendar year. That is a big chunk of money. I finished my BSN online while getting paid for it. I would recommend anybody to work there.

Wow! This sounds wonderful! Emory is one of my top choices, along with Piedmont. I am definitely going to try to get hired there once my BSN is complete.

atlanta medical center starting salary 21/hr. well it is a teaching hospital and it is a place to get expireance but i don't like how things are done there. i don't think i know one nurse who is happy to come to work... Mmm the work is really too much and they are not computerized plus too much paper work bla bla bla... i don't think i would have worked there for more than 6 mon. anyways i got my experiance. as a new grad you'll get 12 weeks with your preceptor if you are lucky you'll get the exprianced nurse or you'll end up with someone who just wroked for a year... tell me about that a nurse who just worked for a year precepting was really bad; sometimes you know some stuff better........! anyways it is a nice place to get expreiance for a year or less other than that i would look for hospitals where nurses are recognized as nurses... man i didn't like that place!

I did work at Atlanta Medical Center as a PRN nurse as well in their ICUs. It was a great experience. You can learn a lot. They were not too organized. They have some very experienced and well skilled nurses in their ICUs. I would recommend someone to work in their ICUs... Yu can get great experience. I think a nurse with only a year experience to orient a new nurse can be challenging for both people, but it increases a sense of leadership. Remember you learn as you teach. I had a new nurse oriented me when I first got out of school on the East coasl. She knew a lot... We were on the computer together looking at things. You have to be open about things. The nursing shortage is really bad here so we have to work with what we have. I tend to be very positive about things, and get the best out of them.

I work at Emory University Hospital in one of their ICUs. I was doing PRN at Atlanta Medical Center at the same and going to school to finish my BSN. I left for that reason. I enjoy working at Emory.

Is it difficult to obtain an ICU nurse residency spot at Emory or a nurse externship while in school? Thanks for the info. This is great.
