HELP! Need advice & info about nursing schools in Atlanta!

U.S.A. Georgia

Hi everybody,

I've been reading all nurses posts for sometime now and decided to get some help myself since many of you have a lot of experience and some of the same struggles i have. History: I've taken the TEAS V twice.. got a 72 the first time and did badly, about a 54 the second time. When applying at GSU, KSU, Mercer & Emory University GPA was a 3.1, after rejections from all Universitys except Emory, GPA is now currently a 2.88 :(. Emory has me wait listed and I find out from them August 13th BUT with the updated GPA transcript sent to them its not looking up.. who knows.

My bad GPA stems from getting C+'s in AP1, AP2 and Chem 2. Fall 2014 was SUPPOSED to be my on track graduation Nursing School start date but if Emory rejects me as well... I'm back to taking more classes at GSU to up my GPA. Random classes at that towards other fields like Health Informatics, RT, Nutrition, Psych, ETC so I'm not stuck with just Nursing.

Today at work I researched more nursing schools in atlanta. I NEED to start at a nursing program by Spring 2015. I'm registered for 13 credits currently (meeting with advisors next week to see if this is possible) but with my own calculations, ALL A's will bring my GPA to a 3.0. Dilemma? Applying NOW to other nursing schools for Spring 2015, they will not see that potential 3.0 transcript as admission decisions are released before end of decemeber, they will see the current 2.88.

Looking at Chamberlain College of Nursing, heard its $86K for 3 years.. looked at their potential curriculum and my GSU credits should transfer and I should have 2 years to complete the rest of their work. The lady on the phone said I could apply now with my 2.88 GPA but is it likely i'm to get in even with a good HESI score? IF you attend there now, how is the curriculum? Class size, Graduation rate, and accreditation? Clinical sites? ANY info helps.

ALSO (sorry this is long! :( just lost right now on what to do.) what OTHER nursing schools can I look at whose deadlines have not passed for a Spring 2015 start? Was looking at GGC since that just started but my Science GPA is a 2.2 not a 3.0. I meet all their other requirements GPA and prereq wise.

PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi Jasmin, have you considered applying to schools that offer ADNs? That would expand your options significantly. GPC, Atlanta Tech, Gwinnett Tech, West GA Tech, Lanier Tech (and pretty sure some others too) offer ADNs. You can always do a bridge to BSN later. I'm not sure if any of these would be any easier to get into than the ones you've already applied for, but it's an option.
