Just today in another thread about narrowing the scope of practice for LPN's in NY it became apparent to me that most of us RN's and LPN's are unaware of legislation that could affect us.

For decades RN's and LPN's have had a political love hate relationship and it's time to stop and circle the wagons all across the US, if we band together stupid and dangerous legislation can be stopped. The following article was sent to me via a non-nursing friend.

They want to allow CNA's to be trained to give shots and take care of vent patients in a home setting. To be trained by RN's but YOU and I know that the liablility will still rest on the RN who train them. Why you ask, because it will be cheaper than using licensed personel.

Please send your state reps emails to vote against this piece of legislation. It's one thing to have ancillary staff working under you on a unit, but to send them out to eval a patient in the home - I see licenses on the line here.

This type of cut throat legislation will not only endanger the patient but trained licensed personel no matter if your an RN or LPN.

Amazing, they want 2 endanger lives, just to save a buck. I use to be a CNA, I went to school for 4 weeks, and I sure did not learn anything about a vent or maintaining a trach, or keeping a patent airway, or suctioning, or even how to get a o2 sat reading... Need I go on.
