Changing Departments Within Any Georgia Hospital???

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently seeking employment at hospitals in the Atlanta area. There are many departments with my current position available. However, I have developed departmental and hospital preferences for many reasons. I'd like to work extremely close to home, and yet the nearby hospitals aren't hiring in the department I want to work in. Ex. I apply for a job in the oncology department knowing that I really want to work in the ER, but an ER position isn't available. How long would I have to work in that department before I can attempt to transfer to another? Or does it depend on how long it takes for a position to become available in my preferred department? Would you go for the job in the preferred department at a hospital that is over 30 minutes or more away from your home if they are hiring right now? Do employers frown upon transferring from one department to another?

Thanks,

H.N.G.:)

Most of the area hospitals require that you work for at least six months before you can apply for a transfer (position in another dept. ). Also , depending on the dept you're transferring to and the experience you have, you may be required to go through a residency program which is a bit longer and more in-depth than regular orientation. I hope that helps!

Thanks for your help.
