BSN Chamberlain vs Network Engineer

U.S.A. Georgia

Hello All,

I have followed this forum for a long time, but never signed up until now. I am in need of some advice.

I am torn between career choices. I have wanted to become a nurse for some time, but life happened and I had several major detours. I recently got laid off from my job, and would like to finish school. I got accepted into Chamberlain College of nursing in Atlanta, but the cost of the program is a huge concern. At first, I thought I would be OK with the cost of the program, but now I realize that it may be way to much. Upon graduation, I will be in debt around 90k (taking into account my loans from previous schooling). I am not sure if it will be worth it. I am thinking about getting certified in Network Engineering at a great school here in Atlanta. The program is 9 months and they place you in a position or internship after the program finishes. I would be in debt around 16k once this program is completed. I want to be a nurse but I am thinking that I will need to finish school quicker and start working as I wait for a state program seat to open up.

So I guess the question is...what would you do? I hope I get a few answers.

I would not advise going into debt that heavily for a nursing program. I would do the quicker, less expensive network engineering program with job placement service. New nurse grads are having a hard time finding jobs these days in much of the US, and v. few schools offer any kind of placement assistance. You are on your own to find a job.

However, how sure are you that the network engineering program is a "great school"? It's not a proprietary (private for-profit) outfit, is it?

Best wishes for your journey!
