I was wondering if I could use the older version of Porth's Essentials of Pathophysiology book???

The current version is the 3rd edition, I was wondering if the 2nd edition was all that different?

Go on Amazon and see if there is a notation about what is included in the new edition. (They are usually trying to induce people to get the new ones so they'll highlight the "improvements".)

Is this just for your own personal outside study to reinforce your main texts? That would probably be fine. But if it's a text being used in the class... the page numbers will be all buggered up, sometimes even the chapters are in a different order. That would drive you nuts.

If it is for your own enrichment, I'd hazard to say the field of physiology on an udergraduate level is not so radically changed that you need to get the newest edition.

I have to use that book, and I bought an older edition. My prof said it would be fine. For like $90 in savings, I can deal with some mis-ordered chapters!

The cost of books is obscene. I get it.
