We've started on 2 patient management in our clinical courses and I would like to hear from everyone their ideas or tips on time management and/or managing a patient load.

Specializes in Acute Medicine/ Palliative.

OK, well. Here are a few things that helped me:

- Make out a pt assignment sheet with all pertinent data (to be filled in) like VS, Hx, Dx, meds, Tx, and prev reports and todays shift info.

do a plan according to the ward. By this I mean:

0700:

0730:

0800: meds

blah blah blah

-MULTI TASK! Group things together that you may need and bring it all into the room, instead of going in and out again and again.

-chech Drs orders and reeval your time plan through out the day. So, if there is a dressing change, do that at such and such a time. You have to be flexible but organized, meaning is something comes up, jot it on that pt assin. sheet.

Hope this helps a bit..if I think of anything else I will letyou know.

Oh ! Have all your supplies ready to go when you go get yer instructor to do a skill! they LOVE this. Shows great organization!

HTH!

Time management is what I teach! It is very important in nursing, especially with multiple patients. One word, if you take the time to get all your thoughts together, you will spend less time running on your feet. :)
