TEAS 5 test scores 10 points lower than older version???

I just took my Teas and got an 80% overall. I wasn't happy with it, but the nursing school counselor who talks to everyone after they take it said that was really good because the new TEAS version 5 scores are on average 10 points lower than versions 3 or 4. Has anybody else taken the TEAS 5 or heard that the scores were lower? I think she said it was a lot harder or something so people are scoring lower. She said that it would make the cutoff score lower for entrance to the nursing program at my school since everyone's were lower. I was in the first group at my school to take the new version so they don't have anything concrete to go on.

I called the department yesterday after another group took it ( we were the first group at my school to take the version 5) and she said there wasn't a single score above the 68% range...

Just seeing if anybody else knows anything about it.

Nope- sorry!

All I have above are general topics suggested in various test prep books that I agree would may matter on your test. :)

Good luck!

I bought the online practice tests and saw very similar questions on version V. I would highly recommend the practice test as a baseline and then study my weaknesses based on those results. My school uses the ATIs throughout the year and I have found that tactic to be extremely helpful.

I scored a full 10 points lower on version V, than 3.0/4.0.

doomsayer,

Thank you

For math, practice fractions!!! Work on some ratio and proportion.

For reading, just pay attention!

what school did you take your teas v?

Know: (TEAS V)

Basic cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, excretory and endocrine systems and function (ie flow of blood through heart, vasculature; Boyle's law, gas exchange; digestive function and enzymes (amylase breaks down carbs, most absorption is complete in sm. intestine, etc; function of kidneys, nephrons, Loop of Henle, etc)

- I remember this question: Which organ (liver, spleen, pancreas, kidney) is both an endocrine and exocrine gland?

-immunity

Biological Classification- basic taxonomy (kingdom, phylum, etc)

-how names are used: genus, species

Phenotype, genotype, and Punnett Squares

Nucleic Acids- and DNA transcription

Know cell organelles- plant AND animals and their difference

-cell membranes

Mitosis and Meiosis

Photosynthesis and cellular respiration

Atoms

-types of energy (kinetic, potential)

-types of bonds

Acids, bases, neutral

-know what ranges are acidic, basic, neutral

-know reagents- Biuret's, Benedict's, Iodine, Congo Red

-properties of water

-balancing chemical equations

Scientific method- dependent, independent variables etc

The math section had a lot of percentage to decimal conversion stuff and ratio/proportion problems. Know percent increases and decreases (ie. 85 increased by 40%0. Only 4 questions were truly algebra. Fractions are a large part of the test.

Know your Roman numerals. Know metric conversions.

Take the reading part seriously. Brush up on terms- like types of essays, etc.

I used a TEAS V study book as well as a NLN Pre-Nursing entrance exam book and both were helpful. The material for TEAS seemed quite similar to that of the NLN test. (National League for Nursing)

This is clippy, but hopefully this will help someone out as many other posts here helped me.

Good luck!

It helped me a great deal in Algebra and A&P!

what school did you take your teas v

I am taking the exam next week. I have the Teas V book and bough two practice exams from ATI. For me, it is so worth the money to take a test like that and be given immediate feedback along with the rationale behind the question. I took the old teas 4 as a practice test and scored much higher than on this practice test. science was my lowest which is funny as my science grades were all high. i am now going back and using the book for the areas that I scored lowest and using the internet to really back up the learning on those sections. There was so much chemistry that I did not do so well on so I am spending time really focusing on this area. Other areas that I may be weak in but that only had one or two questions, I am just letting those go. I am trying to the most bang for my buck as far as time spent studying. I was also low in the english/spelling section which is funny because I do very well in those classes as well. My papers that I turn in are always scored very high in those areas so I do not feel my score is indicative of my talent. For my school, we need a 62 percent on Teas V. If you took Teas 4, you need 67 percent. On my practice, my overall was above the passing score so I am not as worried as I used to be about taking the test. In a day or so, I will retake the next ati test and see if I have done better. As I took the first one, I took notes on the ones I missed and that helped as well. Read the questions very carefully. I missed a few just because I didn't read the question well enough and thought I new the answer off the top of my head. One question was about smoking and what disease it could cause. I quickly put emphasema but it was cv disease. So read carefully. Good luck!
