Starting on the right foot for nursing

Hi everybody,

New guy studying for nursing here. I am 25 years old with a Bachelor's in psychology, and figured i would get some use out of it by going back to an accelerated program and turning it into a Bachelor's for nursing! Right now I am taking pre-reqs for my program (SIUE Accelerated Bachelor program) and passing with flying colors.

However, due to the fact that I am a returning student and have very little healthcare/hospital experience, I am also eager to make sure I get as many advantages as I can for the upcoming school year and potential career afterwards. I was wanting to ask you all to see what I could do to make things easier. I already have a few things in mind, such as:

1. Take the winter break to apply for as many scholarships as I can

2. Take an online medical terminology class the summer before my program in the fall

3. Volunteer at a hospital to acclimate myself.

I'd love to get a job in the field to start out with, but I can't do any training due to my current job situation.
