RN to MSN or RN to BSN?

In a tough spot

So I am going back and forth on this matter. I want to apply to an online program but I know I am not always the best with online schools. It will be an RN to BSN program. This would be more flexible and allow me to work at night. I could later on get a MSN to become a family practitioner if I want to continue on. This is a public university.

The other option is to a RN to MSN program. I think I would have to get a general MSN or a MSN with a focus on leadership or education with this program. I would have to get another certificate to become an NP if I decide later on. This is an expensive university but it's not one of the diploma mills.

I am thinking the RN to BSN may be the best bet at this point in time.

I am doing my own schools online RN to BSN which will cost about 1/4 of the cost of doing a RN to MSN (just the RN to BSN portion). I looked into doing RN to MSN but all of the programs were distance learning, and I really decided that I want to attend a traditional classroom setting if I choose to go the MSN route. I too enjoy the learning of traditional classroom, and the advantage of the traditional schools around me setting up clinical placements.

Do you want to be an NP or an educator? If you want to be an NP I wouldn't go the RN to MSN route just to have it done.
