Profiecency exams

I was just wondering if your nursing class has a timed profieceny examination. We have 9 different stations, and have to perform different tasks at each station. We get 4 minutes for each one. For example, we have to insert a foley catheter, write a nurses note pertaining to a dressing change, mix meds, mark off the injection sites, lungs, change a dressing, etc. I am so nervous about being timed. It doesn't seem fair. I can do these things, but just the thought of being timed bothers me.

Just venting, but really would be interested if other nursing programs have the same exam. We also have a med math exam with 35 questions. We have to pass this to go on to 2nd year.

Thanks,

Ours weren't timed, but videotaped. That was nervewracking. We had 2 chances to pass it, or fail the entire program. But I can't imagine being timed. Is that the only chance you get?

Good Luck!

Julie:)

Julie,

We get one more chance if we mess up. It's the timing that's going to make me nervous.Last semester we weren't timed. 4 minutes is not very long!

Thanks for the reply.

I've got 2 more semesters to go--Med-surg in August, Peds and OB starting in January. Good luck to you.
